Hawk Mountain Report
At the beginning of the year, the sixth grade visits Hawk Mountain
as part of a science unit on raptors. The students take their
journals with them. They hike the trails, observe birds on the
high lookouts, and take notes and make sketches. They stay overnight
in a lodge, then visit the Lehigh Valley Nature Center the next
day.
This is an open-form assignment. Students may write an essay,
report, story, poem, or newspaper article about the experience.
They may write about Hawk Mountain, the Nature Center, the lodge,
hawks, the bus ride, or any other aspect of the trip.
