Writing

The ability to write well is important for success. In English class, you write every day in your writer's notebooks, you write on the netbooks, and you write assignments at home and in class.

Regular routine:

We follow a regular routine with writing projects. Writers use a writer's notebook to gather ideas and stories, try out strategies, record grammar and spelling suggestions, take notes, and collect observations. The writer's notebook must come with you to every class. You will turn it in regularly for a notebook check.

When you are ready to draft, go to Google Docs and open a new document. Give it a title, put a proper header on it, and share it with dturner@haverford.org. Write your first draft as quickly as possible, usually no more than two days. Let me know when your draft is ready for review. After you have revised your work, edit it for spelling, punctuation, and grammar and let me know it is ready for publication. Publication includes posting in the hall, posting on a wiki, submitting to a class journal, or doing a whole-class share.
